Key Roles Supporting Children and Youth in the Diocese
The Diocese of Cashel, Ferns & Ossory supports young people through the work of its Diocesan Youth Officer (DYO) and Children & Families Representative (CFM Rep).
- Revd Ger James serves as DYO – email: dyocfo24@gmail.com
- Carolyn Good serves as CFM Rep – email: candfcfo@gmail.com
Both positions are part-time and play an important role in nurturing the faith, development, and wellbeing of children and young people across the diocese.
Areas of Work
Partnership with National Church Supports
The DYO and CFM Rep work closely with:
- The Church of Ireland Youth Department (CIYD)
- The National Youth Officer
- The Church of Ireland Board for Ministry with Children and Families
- The Development Officer for Children & Families
They ensure diocesan parishes receive up-to-date information on training, resources, and national initiatives.
Annual Diocesan Confirmation Retreat
Held each year around Easter, this retreat helps prepare young people for Confirmation, providing guidance, community-building, and spiritual formation.
Summer Holiday Camps
Two residential camps are run each summer:
• One for senior primary-aged children
• One for secondary school-aged young people
These camps offer faith exploration, activities, fun, and fellowship.

Diocesan Projects & Special Initiatives
Occasional events and programmes are organised throughout the year to engage children and young people in creative and faith-based learning.
Supporting Young Leaders
The DYO and CFM Rep actively encourage and mentor teenage and young adult leaders, nurturing their gifts and leadership potential.
Training for Adult Leaders
Training is offered to adults involved in children’s ministry to ensure safe, effective, and inspiring leadership across the diocese.
Communications & Resources
Both officers contribute regular articles to the diocesan magazine, keeping parishes informed about news, events, and opportunities for children, youth, and families.
